News-Leader.com | Springfield Blogs - Inside Missouri Politics | Springfield News-Leader: "JEFFERSON CITY — The passage of the village law repeal remains in limbo after a compromise bill was withdrawn in the Senate because of a filibuster by two Democrats.

Sen. Jack Goodman chided Democratic Sens. Victor Callahan and Chris Koster for holding up the passage of his legislation, Senate Bill 765.

After withdrawing his motion, Goodman expressed doubt that any deal could be made.

'No obvious options remain,' Goodman said. 'But I never say die.'

On the floor of the state Senate this evening, Callahan, of Independence, summed up how the “village law” repeal has brought the General Assembly to a grinding halt.

“It’s taking a village to destroy the session,” Callahan said at about 6:30 p.m.

The legislative session ends at 6 p.m. Friday.

Just when the impasse over the “village law” repeal looked settled by Senate and House negotiators, another one formed in the Senate.

After Senate and House negotiators agreed this afternoon agreed to strip out regulations of the sex industry, Callahan and fellow Democratic Sen. Chris Koster have been filibustering the compromise.

In order for the repeal to come to fruition, the entire House and Senate must separately approve the compromise bill"
